Call for Visual Artists

Three Cat Productions is seeking visual artists to exhibit during the Chicago New Work Festival. Three Cat is an arts organization that focuses on developing new work and artists. The Chicago New Work Festival is a new play development series running Saturdays from January 17 to February 7, 2015 at Berger Park Coach House Theater (6205 N Sheridan Road). Art will hang in the theater for the duration of the festival, and be on view during the staged readings from 12-5 pm Saturdays, for an expected audience of over 300 attendees.

Submission Requirements:

To be considered, you must reside in the Chicago area and be able to attend the opening night gala event at the theater, January 17, 2015 at 7:30 pm. Selected artists may show two pieces. Outer dimensions of artwork should be 24” or less, including frame. Artists are responsible for framing, but work does not have to be framed if it is meant to hang without one. We welcome any 2-dimensional media. We strongly encourage artists to submit work priced in the $150 and lower range. There is no commission, but we do ask artists to make a small donation back to Three Cat Productions if a work sells. Artwork will hang on a black background.

Submission Materials:

  • Digital Images. Please email 2 JPGs 2MB or less of the pieces you intend to show in the Chicago New Work Festival to Jason Paul Smith at jsmith@threecatproductions.com
  • Online Portfolio. Please include a link to your website or online portfolio.
  • Artist Statement. Please include 2-4 sentences of information relevant to helping the viewer better understand your artwork.

 Call for SOLO Performers:

Three Cat Productions is now accepting submissions for its second annual  SOLO Chicago Festival, a showcase of individual performances running from August 13-16 and 20-23 at the Berger Park Coach House Theater at 6205 N. Sheridan Rd, Chicago, IL 60660.  There is no cost or compensation to participating artists and tickets will be available for $15.00.

We will give priority and strongly encourage new work submissions.  We will provide rehearsal time with a director (depending on the artist) to each performer selected.   Each performer will be provided with one week of rehearsal at Berger Park prior to the performance.    Each performer will be assigned two performance times, a rehearsal schedule, and a technical rehearsal.  (Lighting, sound, technical assistance will be provided to each performer).

Interested artists should submit a description of their performance piece.  Multiple artists may be involved in the development and support of the performance, but only one artist may perform.   We are looking for diversity in color, gender, and perspectives.

The  SOLO Chicago Festival is part of Three Cat’s ongoing efforts to reach out to Chicago artists, foster relationships within the theater industry, and provide new work programming to the Edgewater area.  By providing a venue and production resources, Three Cat hopes to encourage performers to hone their craft and offer compelling performances to the neighborhood.

Submissions and inquiries can be directed to Three Cat Productions Artistic Director Jason Paul Smith at jsmith@threecatproductions.com.  More information is available online at www.threecatproductions.com, or by calling Three Cat Productions at (312) 970-9840.

Call for Playwrights:

Three Cat Productions is accepting new play and new musical submissions for the 2015 Chicago New Work Festival. Full-length, never produced plays written by playwrights who currently live in the Chicago area may be submitted for consideration between July 1 and Oct. 1, 2014.

The Chicago New Work Festival is development oriented. Each invited playwright will be paired with a director, and the playwright-director team will be assigned a week of the festival to workshop the play, with a staged reading at the end of the week. The 2015 festival will be held from Jan. 5 to Jan. 30, 2015 at the Berger Park Coach House Theater.
