Call for Playwrights:
Beginning Jan. 10, Three Cat Productions is accepting new play submissions for the 2013 Chicago New Work Festival. Materials will be accepted through Feb. 15, 2013. The 2013 festival will be held from March 25 to May 18 at the Berger Park Coach House on the Chicago Lakefront off the Granville Red Line stop.
Only Chicago-based playwrights may participate. Only full-length scripts (over 60 minutes) that have not received a full staging (with costumes, sets and lights, etc.) will be considered.
Seven playwrights will be invited to participate in the first New Work Festival. The program is intended to give Chicago-based playwrights the opportunity to further develop works in progress in partnership with a director and actors.
Each invited playwright will be paired with a director. The playwright-director team will be assigned a specific week to develop and perform a staged reading of the piece. Rehearsals will take place Monday through Friday from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the Coach House. Playwrights may rewrite during the process.
Staged readings will be held each Saturday at 7:30pm. (There might be opportunities for additional rehearsals if needed.) The staged readings will not involve costumes or sets, and only minimal lighting will be provided.
