2018 Chicago New Work Festival Submission

2018 Chicago New Work Festival Submission

Three Cat Productions is accepting new play and new musical submissions for the 2018 Chicago New Work Festival AND the Next Draft series. Full-length, never produced plays written by playwrights who currently live in the Chicago area may be submitted for consideration between August 1 and November 1, 2017.

PLEASE NOTE:  This is the submission process for both the Chicago New Work Festival and the Next Draft Series. You may be selected for one but not both in a calendar year.

There is a nonrefundable submission fee of $15, which supports printing and the cost of the festival. Submitting playwrights receive a free ticket to the festival’s opening celebration.

Eight playwrights will be invited to participate in the 2018 Chicago New Work Festival. Ten playwrights will be invited to participate in the 2018 Next Draft Series.

The Chicago New Work Festival is development-oriented. Invited playwrights will each be paired with a director, and the playwright-director team will be assigned a week of the festival to workshop the play, with a staged reading at the end of the week. The 2018 festival will be held from Jan. 8 to Feb. 2, 2018 at the Berger Park Coach House Theater.

Next Draft Series readings are generally held on the third Monday of the month after the conclusion of the New Work Festival. Playwrights are paired with a director and cast for one rehearsal and a staged reading, offering the playwright the opportunity to learn about their play by hearing it and observing the choices actors make.
