(Chicago, IL)   Three Cat Productions presents the world premiere of a Spark at the Chicago Park District’s Berger Park Coach House Theater at 6205 N. Sheridan Road (Edgewater by Granville el stop on Red Line).

Having moved into his first apartment in Lincoln Park, twenty year old Kale meets his neighbor Buddy, an older man in his 50’s. Forming a close platonic friendship, Kale’s new friend has a secret that will change his life as well as the life of his parents.  This touching new musical will bring you through wishing for more.   Find out why people are calling us “Incredible.”

Spark is new music with a book by Rob Dorn, music and lyrics by Gary Gimmestad.  Three Cat Productions is proud to present Spark by Gimmestad and Dorn.  The dynamic duo has come up with brand-new hit songs, such as “This Feels Like a Moment” and “Tiny Blue Dot”.

Rob Dorn recently collaborated with Gary Gimmestad writing lyrics to original music featured in Three Cat’s “At Mister Kelly’s.”  Dorn and Gimmestad worked together with the nationally renowned vocal group “Three Hits and a Miss”.

The play is directed by Jason Paul Smith, Three Cat Productions, Artistic Director.  Musical Direction by Roy A. Freeman.  Stage Manager is Julia Heeren.  Resident Set and Lighting Designer is Pat Henderson.  Literary Manager is Wendy Schmidt.

Previews begin May 4, 2018.  The show runs is May 11  – June 9, 2018.  Thursdays at 7:30pm, Fridays at 7:30pm, Saturdays at 4:00pm and 7:30pm at the Berger Park Coach House Theater at 6205 N. Sheridan in the Edgewater neighborhood of Chicago.  Doors open 30 minutes prior to curtain.  No late seating.

About Rob Dorn

Rob Dorn recently collaborated with Gary Gimmestad writing lyrics to original music featured in Three Cat’s “Hang You’re Hat at Mr. Kelly’s.” He also wrote original comic material for “Kelly’s.” Additional work with Three Cat include tributes to Cass Elliott and Barbra Streisand.  Solo shows include, “Bob Fred” and “Wonderland: 364 Days Til Christmas.” Rob has spent over thirty years as a performer appearing on stages throughout the country. Favorite shows include Stephen Sondheim’s “Into the Woods” (National Tour) a Jeff Award winning production of Sweeney Todd and in the Minneapolis company of “Forever Plaid.” He toured for many years with the vocal group, “Three Hits and a Miss” bringing 1940’s style harmony to nearly every state in the of the country. Solo recordings include “I’m Wishing” and “Wonderland.” And “Sentimental Star,” “Sing Sing Swing,” “Christmas Presence” and “Mixing it Up” with Three Hits and a Miss. He is also featured on the cast recording of “A Christmas Carole Petersen.” Currently Rob sings with The Alan Gresik Swingshift Orchestra at Chicago’s famed Green Mill. In addition to writing and performing, Rob works as a professional Visual Designer for IBM.

About Gary Gimmestad

Gary Gimmestad, a native Minnesotan, has a long history in theater and music including several projects with Three Cat Productions. Gary arranged and composed the original music for Three Cat Productions “At Mister Kelly’s”.  Gary composed the original incidental music to “Joint Attention” by Pat Curtis and “Marvelous Madelines” by Wendy Schmidt.  Rob and Gary collaborated on Rob’s solo CD, I’m Wishing and on the dozens of arrangements they co-created for the vocal group Three Hits and a Miss. Gary has also performed and toured as pianist and music director for a number of shows including Ain’t Misbehavin’, 1940s Radio Hour, Little Shop of Horrors, Forever Plaid and many others. Gary recently launched his own business (Dal segno Music Services, LLC) which offers music preparation services as well as instruction in Finale music notation software. Gary is currently working with singer / songwriter Tom Lieberman ( on his children’s theater project featuring a ukulele puppet named Luke the Uke and his sidekicks Amanda Lynn and Duke. And Gary is eagerly looking forward to future collaborations with Three Cat!
