Roy spent his formative years in rural Illinois, immersing himself in music and theatre. He moved to Chicago to follow his passion for music and the arts over 10 years ago. Shortly after moving to Chicago, Roy found a home in the local LGBT music community, conducting and performing in several community ensembles. When the Gay Games came to town, he arranged and conducted for an ensemble of international performers. He continues his performance work as the drumline captain for the Lakeside Pride Freedom Band, where he performs yearly in front of over a million spectators during Chicago’s Pride Parade.
His passion for performance has also led him to the Chicago theatre world, where he enjoys working on new and experimental theatre. Roy has composed, arranged and directed music for several intriguing new works. He is currently the company musical director for ThreeCat Productions, whose “At Mr. Kelly’s” was recently Jeff recommended.Roy has also pursued his calling as an educator, graduating from VanderCook College of Music with a degree in Music Education. He currently teaches K-8 music in the Chicago Public Schools, where he hopes to inspire another generation of creative artists.
