Wendy Schmidt is a playwright and theater artist living in Chicago. She is Literary Manager for Three Cat Productions, and a Chicago Dramatists Writers Studio and Dramatist Guild member. Most recently, she had a staged reading of her play Veda in Time at La MaMa Studios in New York, directed by Ivette Dumeng. She adapted O. Henry’s Gift of the Magi for Three Cat’s 2017 production of The Holiday Radio Show. She was a participant in the 2017 La MaMa Umbria International Playwright Retreat with Erik Ehn. Her full-length play Marvelous Madeleineswas produced by Three Cat at Berger Park in Chicago in November, 2016, directed by Jason Smith. Her play The New Republic had a staged reading in Chicago Dramatists’ Saturday Series in February 2015 (Jeri Frederickson, director), and was workshopped in Three Cat Production’s Chicago New Works Festival that same month. In January 2015, her full-length play The Newlyweds was included in 20% Theater Company’s Dark Room series, with a month-long workshop and two staged readings. Her ten-minute play Tornado Alley was a finalist for the 2015 Actors Theatre of Louisville’s Heideman Award. She wrote the 10-minute piece The Angel Blues for Three Cat’s December 2014 production of Holiday Stories at Berger Park. Her radio play Goose Noir was recorded live at Chicago Dramatists as part of the February 2013 episode of Small Fish Radio Theatre, and was included in Small Fish’s Atlanta Fringe Festival program that year.
Wendy has studied at Chicago Dramatists, Piven Theatre Workshop, Green Shirt Studios, and has a BFA from Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design. She works as a freelance graphic designer in Chicago.
